NPS Service to America - A National Collaboration between National Park Service and Girl Scouts of the USA

The existing partnership between the National Park Service and Girl Scouts of the USA through the Linking Girls To The Land initiative has expanded its scope by participating in the NPS Service to America patch program. The patch was designed to honor Girl Scouts who have completed 12 hours of volunteer service on national park lands throughout the United States. Projects can range from trail maintenance, exotic plant removal, forest and grassland restoration, reptillian and bird inventories, to assisting delivery of park programs to the public alongside National Park Service staff. By choosing a project in a nearby national park or historic center, individual Girl Scouts, troops or groups will gain hands-on skills in land management and resource conservation efforts. Each project is completed in partnership with a national park ranger and is a great way for Girl Scouts to explore careers. Because national park lands exist in every state and most major cities, and because there is no cost to the Girl Scouts to participate in the program (except the $1.99 cost of each patch), this program is easily accessible to every girl everywhere. The Service to America program is an extension of the Linking Girls To The Land initiative. Since 2001, the Girls Scouts and their leaders have completed nearly 6,094.00 hours of service in America's parks.
